DEMO:

This demo of Self Simulated features the core elements of the game, as well as some of the first levels.

The game is still in development and is expected to release in 2025.

Made by 2nd Law Games (@attackemartin).

ASSIST SETTINGS:

Platformers can be hard! Since this game can be pretty challenging, I've built in some assistant settings in the menu, where you can activate some things to help ease the difficulty of the game to play at your own pace.

STORY:

You recently had an accident. Your brain was mapped beforehand and then transferred into a humanoid robot allowing you to live on.

You are greeted by a robotic voice which you can hear directly in your head, telling you to navigate through challenging levels and various obstacles to synchronize your humanoid robot body.

As you progress through the facility, you get flashbacks and see weird things, making you wonder, what actually happened.

CONTROLS:

Jumps are instant with one button press. So unlike in typical Mario games, you don't have to keep pressing the jump button to get higher. One jump button press will lift you automatically as high as you can jump.

WIRELESS KEYBOARD & GAMEPADS:

A few people had problems playing Self Simulated with a wireless keyboard or gamepad, as the introduced latency was enough to not be able to handle the player precise enough.

Usually controls in Self Simulated should feel instant, very snappy and precise. So if you're not playing on original hardware or similar devices, and you don't have the feeling of "full control" over the player, then try playing the game with different hardware (and please let me know in the comments, if you have trouble. Please provide which hardware you were playing on)

Great demo! Playing on GBA and it's super slick! Very tight controls. Must have died a hundred times, but got to the end wanting more!

awesome to hear! Super glad about your feedback <3 thanks a lot!

Cute. Interesting.

I be intrigued.

Very slippery on laptop though XD I doubt it'll be different on anything else considering it'll all be using emulators.

can you give me more informations on what OS and Browser? I assume you used the built-in keyboard on the laptop?

Firefox, Windows 10, and yep I did.
I didn't know you could program characters to slide when you'd stopped pressing the button but I assume that's Platformer for you, I haven't tried making a game with that yet.

just diggin into the problem: so you ran into one direction, let go of the keyboard, and the character slided further and didn't almost instantly stopped?
Or did you do a dash-attack ?

Or let me ask it in another way: When you run around, for example to the right side and then switch to run into the opposite site (to the left). Does it feel almost instant or is there a noticeable lag between you pressing the Left key (or A) and the player character going left?

He turns quickly, that's fine, he just takes a couple of extra steps before stopping when normally running. Just a fraction of a second, we can work with that.
The dash attack make a couple of extra steps so it's longer to slow down but that's momentum for you really, isn't it? Sends you off platforms too easily.

aahhh ok, then it sounds like everything runs nominal, good! :)

yeah, the dash attack gives you quite some momentum. Though, you can cancel the momentum by just walking into the opposite side

I know. You'll be in the credits of the game. To be fair though, the stuff you made was hugely edited by now, so there is not that much left of what you did :D
But still, I got you on my credits list as pixel artist :)
